1.  I am approaching my 10 twelvemonth blogging anniversary later this Summer.  I've always had a creative streak and a dear for doing projects, just never thought anyone would be interested in what I was doing!  My husband disagreed and encouraged me over and over to start sharing on a web log.  I finally gave in and the residuum is history!  I have a pedagogy background, and my goal in blogging has e'er been to teach others things that I wish I had known how to do when I was younger, and to encourage them to develop their own sense of creativity and style in decorating their home.

2. I never know how to label my style (although we are calling it colorful artistic chic!) home.  Basically, I put all of the things I like together, and the more color and blueprint I tin mix in the better!  I love the uniqueness and quality of vintage second paw and thrifted finds.  I recollect the base of my fashion is traditional simply with some chinoiserie, preppy, Palm Embankment, and vintage elements mixed in.

3.  I've definitely seen my blueprint style alter and evolve over the years, there's proof if yous wait dorsum in the archives of my early weblog posts!  For a while early on on when establishing my habitation I roughshod victim to the "exercise what everyone else" is doing mentality where I felt similar I had to brand my abode wait like what I was seeing in magazines, furniture stores and HGTV shows (this was pre-Pinterest or dwelling decor blogs!) which was generally neutral color palettes.

I was never truly happy or content with my home and ever felt like something was missing.   I just began to find joy in my home decor when I started experimenting with my own personal style and filling my home with the colors, patterns, and things I loved and had meaning to me, not what I idea my home SHOULD look like according to the electric current trends.

4.  I wish I had a specific formula or rule to share that I adhere to when mixing color and design, but I don't.  I simply play with combinations until I notice one that looks right to me.  But generally, for a pillow line upwardly on my sofa for example, I choose a large graphic print (something like a colorful floral or abstract pattern), then find a pattern or two (that are different size scales) to complement that.  Y'all can never go wrong with a solid, geometric pattern, floral mix!

Favorite Room

5. My favorite room in our home is whichever one I've just finished- ha!  Right now, that happens to be our Master Bath.  Information technology's a dramatic before and after (all cosmetic changes, nosotros didn't motion anything structurally), and after 12 years of it being on the project "to-do" list, I appreciate it even more than!  My colorful creative chic habitation dining room comes in at a close second.

The Planning

six.  Most of the time I don't sit downward and plan a room all at once. I starting time with one idea or inspiration piece for the room and mull that over for a fourth dimension while I wait for inspiration to strike for the rest of the room.  I'thou a slow planner and decorator. I always consider what I already have and how I might exist able to work that into the blueprint.

Generally I don't gear up a specific budget for a projection, simply my mentality is to always spend as petty as possible!  I snag deals when I come across them if I know they'll be useful in an upcoming colorful creative chic home project and generally deal shop for the things I demand.  That being said, there are always certain things that I'thousand willing to spend more on if it's something that's there for the long haul (like the quartz countertops in our bathroom) or a special designer material that I know I'll love for years to come.

The I Room Claiming

seven. I find The One Room Challenge to exist SUCH a great motivator to get a space knocked out in a hurry!  And yeah, six weeks goes by in a flash!  Without a doubt, the hardest thing to bargain with is the timeline.  For my kickoff ii ORC projects, I was a (self-imposed) stickler on the timeline. It's a six week time frame from start to terminate. Lots of people really kickoff the work early on! And then they stick to the 6 weeks for sharing progress reports.  On my subsequent projects I besides started work a bit early. I will always scramble at the terminate to get the finishing touches done, photographed, and posted.  I always do a number of DIY projects for my ORC rooms. That takes a lot of time as well.

x. I badly need to make clean out our attic and have a garage auction!  Aught glamorous about that…  Room related, there'due south merely 1 room left in the business firm that notwithstanding needs a big makeover- our office/bonus room.  I've done some painting in in that location to get u.s. through until I tin can do everything I want in there, merely I've been keeping plans in my head for that space to tackle in the next yr or and so.  I'm non certain that I'll always be truly done…before long information technology will be time to circle dorsum around to some rooms- ha!   I redid our laundry room 10 years ago and lately I've been itching for a change in there!

Those are Facebook Market, garage sales, thrift stores, and vintage shops.  Merely if I'm shopping new, I frequent Ross to check out their aisles and Homegoods/TJ Maxx/Marshalls.  I also always check eBay if there'south something specific I'thousand looking for.  Ebay has great for designer fabric deals!
