only working out arms, shoulders, abs
ok so my friend and i started lifting recently.. i do back/tris chest/bis shoulders/legs.. my friend thinks that looking big and looking good to girls only requires havin big arms shoulders and nice abs.. this mite be true that girls usually look at big arms and nice abs.. and big shoulders/traps just make u look huge, but i kno thats not really how your supposed to workout.. i kno its important to workout entire body because the point is to get stronger and looking nice.. but i can't seem to explain this to my dumbass friend..
if i get enough replies i wanna send this link to him later
his schedule: monday- biceps, traps, abs wed- triceps, shoulders abs friday- biceps, traps, abs.. sunday- triceps, shoulders, abs etc..1. would he really look bigger than me if we both hav good daily diet and workout hard?
2. how fast would he be able to get bigger arms, shoulders if he works them out this frequently?damn he wud look mad wierd with big arms and a tiny chest, with big shoulders and tiny back

That's probably the worst idea I've ever heard. Neglecting lower body is a huge no-no in my book. Not to mention, Squats actually develop your abs a lot more than a crunch or sit-up.
Overtraining will eventually (if not within the first week) catch up to him. His body just simply won't grow and in some cases he might remain the same. His chest is going to look terrible. You should never be using girls as your own motivator for gaining muscle. You should be doing it for overall health and fitness. But to each his own I guess.
Tell your friend to Squat or GTFO.

Squatting will make everything grow.
Okay, have you ever been around chickens? They are stupid, uncooperative, inconvenient, ill-tempered creatures. They get what they deserve. [Bleep] chickens.

you just keep working out your whole body, and in a couple months he'll see that you're bigger and he's still tiny.

He's going to fail. If he happens to sort of succeed, he's going to look rediculous. No chest, no back, no legs, and more than likely no arms.
Don't worry about what he's doing. Do your own thing.

SQUATS!!!! DEADLIFT!!! POWER CLEAN!!!!!!! You have to do core lifts or you'll stop growing! Core lifts are the best way to get big. Hell I've gotten more for my shoulders and forearms deadlifting that I ever have from shoulder press and forearm curls

SQUAT is the most important LOWER BODY EXERCISE AS Bench Press is for the upper. Its a must.

If this guy is too ignorant to listen to good advice, then don't try so hard to force it on him. Just outgrow him.

When I started, all I did was what your buddy did. I thought my legs were strong enough from volleyball, and I just wanted to get BIG upperbody. Worked out 7 days a week for 1.5-2 hours a day with a ton of cardio in between. Stopped growing at a certain point, had no clue why.
After my elbow fracture healed enough for me to start hitting the gym again, I knew it was 100% necessary to incorporate legs in your workouts in order to grow. You can't outsmart the body.
My legs are still my strongest part of my body, but now my upper body has grown with it. You'll have waaaayyy better gains than your ignorant a$$ friend.

Working upper body only may have some nice short term effects but long term you will at best end up looking extremely unbalanced and out of proportion and at worst you will hit a plateau and not be able to even grow your upper body much more because of the self imposed limit your weak lower body is putting you in.

Maybe your friend doesn't really believe in what he says, maybe he is just scared of hard work since he is omitting legs, back & chest -arguably the 3 muscle groups that require the most work with the toughest exercises (at least legs & back for sure). A lot of youngsters would rather spend hours on hours doing curls, tri extensions, crunches and front raises as opposed to 20 minutes of brutal squats or deadlifts or rows, etc, etc, etc. Tell your friend he is a PU**Y for not training the legs, back or chest and that 5 hard sets of squats will do more for his whole body than 25 sets of crunches or curls.
