Pratt and Whitney Supporting Continued Education
Pratt & Whitney is investing in its in-country product support ecosystem for Chinese customers, as the first GTF engine was inducted for MRO work in the country.
Support will range from 'EngineWise' solutions, predictive analytics, on-wing services and MRO facilities, with an "overarching focus" on enhancing the customer experience.

Pratt & Whitney said it was growing its MRO footprint in China, securing in-region maintenance support for its customers. MTU Maintenance Zhuhai and Ameco Beijing joined the company's GTF MRO network last year.
MTU Maintenance Zhuhai, a joint venture between MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Airline Company, has inducted a PW1100G-JM engine for MRO – becoming the first active GTF MRO facility in China.
"This is a monumental achievement for the GTF MRO network. We formally welcomed MTU Maintenance Zhuhai to the network in December 2020, and now here we are in September sharing news about its first induction," said Pratt & Whitney's vice president, aftermarket global operations Joe Sylvestro.
"The GTF is a young fleet with a long runway of growth ahead of it. To have an active shop in China brings immediate benefit to our customers in region. We are eager for the induction pace to build and for our other GTF MRO network members in China to begin maintenance operations as well. All of this helps to enhance our customers' operations."
MTU Maintenance Zhuhai's president and CEO Jaap Beijer commented: "We are incredibly excited to have inducted the first GTF engine in our Zhuhai facility, MTU's third facility with full disassembly, assembly and test capability in the GTF MRO network.
"The GTF is a game-changing engine, and MTU has been playing key roles in its design, manufacture and maintenance. It's rewarding to service this geared fan architecture and provide reliable maintenance to maximise our customers' time in the air."
Pratt & Whitney also announced that its GTF engines have now saved Chinese operators more than 95 million gallons (nearly 360 million litres) of fuel and avoided more than 910,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions, accumulating over 400,000 flights and over 1.73 million hours of experience in China.
The engines power 11 airlines across the region on nearly 200 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, which have carried an estimated 57 million passengers since entry into service nearly five years ago. Chinese operators are benefiting from a dispatch reliability rate of 99.97 per cent globally, the company said.
